Project developer Dutch Housing Company and construction partner Giesbers Ontwikkelen en Bouwen from Wijchen started the realisation of 33 luxury residential villas in the exclusive Long Island housing development plan in mid-June. The project is a collaboration between ONW, Municipality of Westland, Dutch Housing Company and Giesbers. On Wednesday 6 July, the start of construction was festively celebrated with the future residents and professional parties involved. Alderman Michiel Ferwerda struck the symbolic first pile of the project together with residents in a classic manner.
Long Island is one of the most beautiful new construction projects in the Waelpark area development in 's-Gravenzande. The residential villas are located on an island, near the Plas van Alle Winden and will all have their own mooring for a sloop. Long Island is directly connected to the Westland waterway via the Poelwatering.
Inspired by the New Hamptons
The design of Long Island is by Mulleners + Mulleners architects from Haarlem. The urban design is a beautiful island with spacious plots connected to greenery and water. Inspired by the rich architecture of the New Hamptons near New York, the villas will have expressive fenestration with plenty of light, large Dutch windows and characteristic elements that enliven the streetscape. The villas have living areas ranging from about 160 to over 200 m², and plot sizes including private water features from about 300 to almost 1,000 m².
More moves
Many of Long Island's new residents move on to the local housing market; nearly 80% are from the West Country. A villa in Long Island was a unique opportunity for them. The New Hampton look of the neighbourhood combined with its waterfront location, with open waterway access, was the reason many people wanted to live here. The realisation of the villas in the higher price segment will ensure multiple relocation movements in the existing housing market in Westland. This will also create supply for various target groups in the other price segments and, in this way, Long Island contributes to reducing the urgent housing shortage.
Planning
Construction started in mid-June 2022 and will be realised in 2 phases. The first villas are expected to be completed in autumn 2023. The entire plan will be completed in late 2023/early 2024.
